ACT for NIH Applauds House Appropriations Committee for Prioritizing Biomedical Research in FY 2027 Labor-HHS Bill

June 11, 2026 – ACT for NIH, a non-profit advocacy organization that works with Congress to make increasing biomedical research funding a national priority, released the following statement in response to the House Appropriations Committee’s approval of the Fiscal Year 2027 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act.

“ACT for NIH applauds the House Appropriations Committee for prioritizing biomedical research in the Fiscal Year 2027 Labor-HHS bill with a $100 million increase in funding for the National Institutes of Health over the FY 2026 enacted level. This action signals that Congress continues to recognize NIH as a national priority and reaffirms its commitment to lifesaving biomedical research.

“We also commend the Committee for including a general provision limiting obligations for multi-year awards, maintaining the bipartisan cap established in the FY 2026 appropriations law. This provision helps ensure NIH can support as many researchers as possible and give patients and families as many shots on goal as possible.

“The Committee’s recognition of delays in competitive NIH grant awards in FY 2026, and its interest in greater transparency around grant success rates, is similarly welcome news for the institutions, researchers, and patients who depend on this funding.

“As the appropriations process moves forward, ACT for NIH urges the Senate to build on this foundation and calls on Congress to work on a bipartisan basis to advance a final FY 2027 spending bill that invests robustly in NIH.”
