July 7, 2016 – The following statement may be attributed to Pat White, president, ACT for NIH:
“ACT for NIH thanks the House Labor-HHS Appropriations Subcommittee and Chairman Tom Cole (R-OK) for approving a $1.25 billion funding increase for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in FY 2017.
“Earlier this year, Chairman Cole assured the NIH community that last year’s historic $2 billion increase, the largest increase for NIH since 2003, was not a one-time effort, and he proved that today. This Labor-HHS mark builds on last year’s investment and affirms the subcommittee’s commitment to restore funding for NIH and life-saving biomedical research.
“ACT for NIH also thanks Subcommittee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) for expressing her support for NIH funding.
“A month ago, the Senate Appropriations Committee approved a $2 billion increase for NIH in FY 2017, matching last year’s increase. ACT for NIH urges Congress to provide at least that amount in the final FY 2017 Labor-HHS appropriations bill.”
